For Spencer
I know. You are shocked. You thought I forgot about this old thing. I haven't. Not only haven't I posted but I haven't read any blogs lately. Sorry for being MIA. This post however couldn't be overlooked. Here you go...
Warning: Don't read if you are easily offended. It is not my intent, I just wanted to post my feelings on this.
I saw a link on my sister in law's FB page and I loved it! It said very eloquently what I will now attempt to paraphrase.
"Magic Mike" is no harmless film. It paints a deceptive picture of what women should get excited about in men. Here is what my "Manly" and "Sexy" really looks like.
A man who communes with his creator daily and strives to live a life that glorifies God.
A man who works long hours and spends his hard earned money to care foe his family and occasionally treats them to fun things like movies and ice cream.
A man who reaches down to pick up his little girl when she trips and falls and holds her hand until the tears stop.
A man who gathers his family for scripture reading every night.
A man who would never go see a movie about a group of female strippers, no matter how many people were saying it is okay.
A man who researches recipes online and makes huge and messy meals in the kitchen (or smoker or BBQ) so his wife doesn't have to make dinner one (or two...) nights.
A man who treats the elderly with respect and dignity.
A man who leaves whatever he is doing when your car breaks down.
A man who leaves whatever he is doing when you lock yourself out of the car or house for the hundredth time.
A man who would rather you had a night out with the girls than having a night out with the boys.
A man who has trained his eyes to look away from other women, even when they look better than you do.
A man who is humble enough to grow, long after he has become an adult.
A man who teaches his children to ride their bikes.
A man who takes an interest in his children's lives.
A man who wants you and finds satisfaction in you, and you alone, after many years of marriage and fidelity.
A man with happy wrinkles around his eyes that prove how many times he has smiled at you.
A man who tells you you are beautiful, even when you are your own worst critic, every time you look in the mirror.
A man who sets controls on his computer to avoid even the temptation to look at pornography.
A man who has dignity and modesty and self control.
A man who refuses to speak profanity and hushes others when they use it in your vicinity.
A man who would give his life for you or your children in a heartbeat.
A man who said "Yes" for all time and eternity.
Men like this don't exist, you say?
Yes they do. I married one!
